medieval manuscripts @ your fingertips…

Posted by: annavan on: 2009/01/05

The Philadelphia Public Library’s Rare Book Department just launched their Medieval Manuscripts in the Digital Age Project. The searchable database contains high resolution images of their collection of western European manuscripts from the 11th to the 16th centuries.

One of the characteristics I find most interesting about the content is that the “[b]ooks have been photographed to look like three-dimensional objects instead of flat images. Individual leaves and cuttings are shown front and back to give as much information as possible about the leaf’s original context.”

Take a look for yourself!
