privacy settings in FB…

Posted by: annavan on: 2009/02/03

A new phenomenon has started to happen with my Facebook account.  I started Facebook back in 2005 as a way to connect with students at my former job.  Then it blended into a way for me to connect with other librarians.  Now my Facebook world is taking a shift — friends from years past — high school, college, and even elementary school.

One of the topics that keeps coming up in discussions with my newly reconnected friends is the concern about  privacy on Facebook for themselves, as well as their children (which is why a lot of them seemed to have joined — to check it out for their children).

I was happy to see the following post come out, 10 Privacy Settings Every Facebook User Should Know.  It’s a great site to share with Facebook users — new and old.  Users can do as much, or as little, as they like.  It’s an informative piece, which may open up Facebook users’ eyes to their online presence.

As a side note, with this new Facebook shift, I have another issue to think about — Once my friends learn I’m a librarian, they tend to ask me research/library questions.  Should I count those in my reference stats??  Maybe I’ll keep my own personal statistics sheet.  :)
