I learned via the Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative that “Senator Brian Stack (D-Hudson (mayor Union City) has introduced S. 2775 which would reduce the minimum funding for public libraries to 1/6 mil from 1/3 mil of the equalized valuation of the real property.”
While this bill is specific to municipal libraries, it’s still a very large cut. Many of New Jersey’s municipal libraries will probably not be able to keep operating with a minimum budget of 1/6 of a mill-per-dollar — especially when 1/3 of a mill-per-dollar is difficult enough to maintain current operations.
NJLA has set up a Take Action site. So, please, if you are a New Jersey resident — do just that.
